This public initiative emerged from the need to eradicate the garbage and neglect on the street and led to meetings with the local residents. The sessions incorporated a board game designed on an aerial photo and a tour of the potential sites that were selected for renovation and renewal. During these meetings, the participants began to realize that the best way to change the current situation was to improve the street’s appearance and enhance community areas in order to create a sense of belonging. They hoped that this would encourage residents to keep their streets clean and that social engagement would develop as a result. Based on these understandings we developed a series of conceptual sketches for “community stations”. Each station was selected after identifying existing opportunities such as a single bench placed directly in the sun, or a community garden without nearby benches or seats. These opportunities were expanded to create new spaces with appealing, unique visual identities.

The current stage of the project involves building a station of this kind near the community garden located inside the yard of a housing complex. The sidewalk widens enough for  residents to gather there for small community events and to enjoy some shade and company. The station also features a small ‘give-take’ library, different types of seats for all ages, plenty of shade and shelter from the rain.

The stations were designed for the greater Baka community administration as part of "Taasu Makom" (Placemaking project), a joint initiative of Eden Company, Jerusalem Municipality Community Administration and in cooperation with the Municipality Operations Administration.

תחנה קהילתית

יוזמת תושבים שהתעוררה מהצורך למגר את בעיית הלכלוך וההזנחה ברחוב והובילה למפגשי שיתוף ציבור, עם תושבים מקומיים, שכללו משחק לוח על תצלום-אוויר וסיור בעקבות אתרים שסומנו כפוטנציאל לשיפור וחידוש. במפגשים התגבשה המחשבה שבכדי לשנות את המצב יש לשפר את פני הרחוב ולחזק מרחבים קהילתיים ע"מ שייצרו תחושת שייכות, יעודדו שמירה על הניקיון ויהוו תשתית למפגשים חברתיים. על-בסיס הבנות אלה פיתחנו סדרה של סקיצות רעיוניות ל“תחנות-קהילתיות" שבחירת מיקומן והתכנון של כל אחת מהן נבעו מזיהוי הזדמנויות מרחביות קיימות - כמו ספסל בודד ללא צל או גינה קהילתית ללא מקומות ישיבה סמוכים - והשלמתן לכדי מקומות חדשים בעלי זהות חזותית מזמינה וייחודית.

בשלב הנוכחי בוצעה תחנה שמוקמה על הרחוב לצד הגינה הקהילתית הנמצאת בשפ"פ (חצר בניין שיכון) במיקום בו המדרכה רחבה ומאפשרת התכנסות של אירועים קהילתיים קטנים עבור התושבים כמו גם שהייה יומיומית מוצלת ומזמינה לעוברים ושבים. בתחנה ספריית "תן וקח" קטנה, מגוון סוגי מקומות ישיבה לכל הגילים, הרבה צל ומחסה מגשם. 

התחנות תוכננו עבור מינהל קהילתי בקעה רבתי במסגרת פרויקט "תעשו מקום", מיזם משותף של חברת "עדן" ואגף חברה בעיריית ירושלים בשיתוף מנהל תפעול.
